Loss of revenue may be as impactful to local government as direct costs of COVID-19Saint Paul, MN – Earlier today, State Auditor Julie Blaha joined State Auditors from Ohio, Illinois, Kentucky, and Indiana to discuss the impact of COVID-19 on local government. “Auditors across the Midwest are hearing what I’m hearing,” said Auditor Blaha. “The loss of revenue to local government may be as impactful as the direct costs of COVID-19. Delayed revenue and cash flow challenges may continue to affect local services and our safety nets.” Blaha continued, “As we are making decisions to work our way out of this, we don’t want to punish the people who are getting us through this pandemic. Let’s remember, when we make sure that local governments get the resources they need, we get better schools, better safety, and better care from our health professionals.” xxx
