State Auditor Julie Blaha Joins State Fiscal Stewards Sound the Alarm on Trump Administration Policies Driving Up Costs for Families
“While attending the National Council of State Housing Agencies (NCSHA) annual conference, I’m focused on what these national housing challenges mean for Minnesotans. Tariffs are driving up the cost of building homes, while proposed cuts to federal housing programs could further shrink the resources available to Minnesota communities,” said State Auditor Julie Blaha.
ST. PAUL, Minn. – On Wednesday, Oct. 28 at 11 a.m. CST, Minnesota State Auditor Julie Blaha will join For the Long Term for a press call [RSVP HERE] on the rising costs families face this fall from President Donald Trump’s administration policies. Days before ACA open enrollment begins, they'll discuss how higher health insurance premiums, the Trump administration's HR 1 budget law, and ongoing tariff costs are squeezing household budgets and straining state and local finances.
Families shopping for 2027 health coverage will face a second consecutive year of double-digit premium increases after enhanced premium tax credits expired. Meanwhile, HR 1 is transferring new SNAP costs to states and threatening Medicaid coverage for millions starting in January, while the Trump administration's tariffs continue driving up prices on everyday goods. On this call, state fiscal stewards will explain what these costs mean for families and communities in their states and call on the Trump administration to lower costs for working families.
