State Auditor Julie Blaha Joins State Fiscal Stewards to Sound the Alarm on Trump Administration's SEC Proposal to Strip Shareholder Rights, Threatening Retirees' Pension Funds
“People who have spent their careers earning a secure retirement deserve stability and responsible stewards of their pension funds. Creating more chaos and uncertainty is not responsible fiscal stewardship,” said State Auditor Julie Blaha.
ST. PAUL, Minn. – On Thursday, Oct. 1 at 10:30 a.m. CST, Minnesota State Auditor Julie Blaha will join For the Long Term for a press call [RSVP HERE] on the Trump administration's SEC and its proposed rescission of Rule 14a-8 – the rule that lets shareholders bring governance and risk concerns directly to the companies they own.
The Trump administration's SEC proposal, formally issued last week, would eliminate the federal shareholder proposal process and hand that authority to the states – a patchwork where filing a proposal can cost far more than the SEC's current $2,000 threshold. State fiscal stewards, who oversee public pension funds built to serve retirees and beneficiaries, will explain what's at stake for the fund members they represent and urge the SEC to withdraw the proposal.
